RIGHT OFF THE BOAT! :: manolo
Living in Manhattan certainly attracts new experiences and opportunities to your life. I came to this city, first of all to go to film school. I have been making films since I was 6. I remember my brother being pretty upset, because for years I filmed those plastic airplanes that he detailed, assembled and painted… I used to film them burning, to perpetuate his work on camera. At the end of the day I would invite the neighbors to enjoy the movie… obviously encountering little cooperation on their behalf. Also included in my roster of actors were my action figures, who delivered nice stories through stop-motion animation. I directed a couple of plays at the age of 7. By 15 the crazy idea to become a film director crossed my mind as I was watching Fellini's “Satyricon”. Now the idea is becoming a reality: I’ll be filming in the summer next year. My first movie is about world-renown priest Marcial Maciel, whose congregation was built in the middle of crime, abuse and manipulation, and who was addicted to heroin, alcohol, and molesting children while monstrously confusing them mentally to the point where they couldn't know where the line was between reality and imagination.
“How many times you forced us — not just one of us, but often two — to mutually engage in the aberrations you forced us to perform,” writes a former Legionary of Christ in a dramatic letter written to Marcial Maciel, the founder of this religious congregation. It is one of numerous unpublished documents brought to light.
“Those trips from Rome to Spain and back again when you would take us in your car and stop unexpectedly — sometimes at a hotel, sometimes at an inn — under the pretext of having to sleep, and take one of us with you... Solares, Nice, Genoa . . . those eight days in Brussels . . . that humiliating time at a Montmartre hotel in Paris after you had finished off a bottle of cognac...” This is one of the confessions by the molested children, now a perturbed Adult.
“Indisputable cases have recently been brought to my attention,” writes a researcher “which indicate that — in spite of a carefully guarded silence — there continue to be cells of pederasts operating within the Legion of Christ even today.
"In addition to the abuse carried out against individuals who were “in childhood or early adulthood,” explains our researcher “Legionaries, besides their priestly duties, are held to certain obligations associated with the so-called ‘Private Vow’. This consists of promising never to criticize one’s superiors (especially the Superior General). Well, no wonder!
On a different note, this August we will be enjoying for the first time the Mexican Festival of New York. This festival will be born to increase the cultural exchange between Mexico and the United States. The Island of Manhattan was chosen because of its mythic charm, so prepare yourself to enjoy Mexican gastronomy, enology, art, fashion, dance and crafts as you haven’t enjoyed them before. Artists, chefs, and models will provide the Savoir Faire, to make this a unique event!
