:: CONSUMPTION

KIFM ANONYMOUS? : sarah

Do I need to join Keep It For Myself Anonymous?

I decided to dye up some veils to sell at my upcoming veil workshop. I am really excited about teaching this workshop. What better than to have more veils around.

I spent all weekend over a hot boiling stove and putting my laundry card to the test. I risked it all; scalding water, rainbow colored fingers and battled little old ladies for washing machine time. Reality at it’s best.

When it was all over, I lined up my resulting veils to count up. I made two piles, one for sale and one to comprise of the few treasures I would keep for myself. As I divided up the piles… I realized the only ones ending up in the sale pile would be the ones that I made two of the same veil.

As rational as making money is – somehow my lust for more and more veils seems to override all that logic. I mean really, how many veils do I really need?  Clearly the answer is: Most of them.

GOODS FROM SPRING CARAVAN :: neon

At Spring Caravan (NJ) I acquired:
- 2 belts and 3 black strings (actually, shoe laces!!!) with Pakistani coins on them (not for costumes, for daily and party wear). The shoe laces are usable as necklaces, bracelets, a belt. I connected them with pins to form a long necklace.
- a fairy crown (Realm of Faerie)
- an Onyx pendant

Here they are!

CHOCOLATE AMBUSH! :: neon

We went down to Soho today for a couple hours to make some reference pictures for my projects (various grass-roots and pseudo-grass-roots visual communications - see examples below), and stumbled on another manifestation of the chocolate craze consuming NYC. A few of us in our circle have been dramatically affected — Blanca and Ayshe, in particular, spend hours at Max Brenner, consuming hot chocolate, “chocotails”, chocolate soup, chocolate crepes and other deadly delights. Well, this is to warn you of yet another outpost of the chocolate monster - The “Cacao Bar” (http://www.mariebelle.com) - cafe and chocolate shop. The environment is quite agreeable, as you can see. Hot mocha chocolate (“European style,” water, not milk-based) was thick and satisfying. One bite off a slab of rich be-nutted milk chocolate was a murder by sweetness: it took me a few minutes sitting there speechless and stunned to regain my senses. This is serious stuff, my friends, and it’s out there to get us!..
